I qualified as a mental health nurse in 2002 and completed the Diploma in CBT for Serious Mental Health Problems at the University of Southampton in 2005. I subsequently undertook an MSc in CBT in 2006/2007. I have worked in secondary care psychological therapy services in Southampton providing psychological therapy for people with a range of complex mental health problems. During this time I also trained as a DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) therapist, and worked with a team to provide DBT for people with borderline personality disorder type difficulties. For the last 3 years I have worked part-time for a primary care NHS service providing CBT for people experiencing anxiety and depression in GP surgeries. Over the last 5 years I have also lectured and supervised trainees training to be CBT therapists at the University of Southampton.
I have been practicing yoga and mindfulness for over 25 years and trained as a Yoga and Mindfulness Teacher 14 years ago. I use mindfulness extensively in therapy and integrate my knowledge of mental health in my yoga work. Working part-time as a CBT therapist and yoga teacher provides an ideal work life balance.
